Booting from USB on ASUS M5A99X EVO

On the previous post, I used the YUMI tool to prepare a bootable linux usb disk. On my tests, I had some difficulties configuring my motherboard (Asus M5A99X EVO) to boot from usb. Here is what I did that worked:

After accessing the BIOS, on the Boot tab, there is a header called Boot Options Priorities. You should put the usb drive you want to boot on Boot Option #1. Additionally, on Hard Drive BBS Priorities, you should do the same. There is another header below (Boot Override), that should help if your pen drive is listed there amongst the options.

After setting these options, I was able to boot the pen drives configures by YUMI pretty reliably.

Last week I tried several tools that enable booting/installing a linux distribution from an USB drive. With YUMI, you can install multiple operating systems in one drive.

After booting, the list of available distros is shown and the user is able to choose which one is going to run. It's great to build a drive with the major linux distributions (Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, etc) or special purpose tool (Kali Linux, Parted Magic) that you can take with you anywhere you need it.
